Quarterly review of Vitiligo Research, April - June 2014 by VRF This is a review of research results in the vitiligo field which were indexed in the PubMed database (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed) for the period from April 2014 till June 2014. Abstracts of papers were retrieved from the PubMed database using the search term “vitiligo” with a filter set up to retrieve records with creation date between April 01, 2014 and June 30, 2014. Retrieved records were manually checked for a relevance to and significance for the field of vitiligo research. Thirty six records were found to be relevant and of interest, and were included into this quarterly overview. |

Lived Experience of Women suffering from Vitiligo Vitiligo is a chronic skin disease, which through change of appearance and body image, exerts a devastating effect on people, especially women. The objective of this study is to explore lived experience of women with Vitiligo by the hermeneutic phenomenology method. The purposive sample consisted of 16 Iranian women. |

Psychosocial problems in patients with vitiligo in Nigeria Vitiligo is a benign idiopathic depigmenting skin disease that can cause profound social embarrassment and psychological turmoil to the affected persons. There is alteration of skin colour and this can be confused with other skin diseases including leprosy, a disease with significant stigmatization even from biblical times. Dermatosis generally because of several myths in the African culture may have a significant impact on a patient’s quality of life including the relationship to others, self-image and self-esteem. The extent to which vitiligo affects the emotional and psychological wellbeing of people affected especially in blacks need to be documented and addressed. |
